Learning more about the GREENOMETER

The GreenometerSM Dashboard measures reductions in your carbon footprint by comparing your electricity consumption data for two different periods. For instance, your electricity consumption in one month could be compared to consumption in the same month of the previous year. The GreenometerSM Dashboard allows you to compare the periods of your choosing by plugging in data that can be found in your electricity bills.

A conversion factor is used to convert your electricity consumption in kilowatt hours to the corresponding amount of carbon dioxide emissions in pounds of carbon. For example, if you buy your power from Florida Power   Light, your conversion factor is 1.054 pounds of carbon for every kilowatt hour of consumption.

The GreenometerSM Dashboard has two components:
  (1) a thermometer indicating your carbon footprint from electricity consumption; and,
  (2) a data console reflecting your current period electricity consumption data in kilowatt hours (kWh), the corresponding carbon footprint and electricity bill, as well as the changes in each compared to the previous period.

The thermometer starts out completely red, which signifies the dangers of global warming. The thermometer becomes green, from top to bottom, as your carbon footprint is either reduced or offset. You are carbon neutral when the thermometer is completely green by reducing or offsetting 100% of your carbon footprint. The data console shows changes in data that will be represented in either green or red. Figures highlighted in green show reductions or savings while those highlighted in red show increases or extra spending.
